Cottage museum and forest study-centre

According to tradition the poet Mihály Vitéz Csokonai was a regular visitor to the wine cellars of the Pápai vineyards at Porrogszentkirály. Although nothing remains from this time the peasant life of the next century is commemorated in the museum in a former cottage with its own smoke kitchen. Not far from here - in the neighbourhood of the 1843 Evangelist church - a large floral park awaits the visitor with a playground for the children. The locals have catered for those visiting from afar, with accommodation arranged in the former doctor's house and school, where beds are available for thirty eight people. In the former school we find the forest study-centre and the exhibition room of the Danube- Dráva National Park. The latter shows some of the treasures of the Dráva area and its flora and fauna. In the courtyard an ornithological hide has been built. Walking along the street of Porrogszentkirály we may enjoy the rarities of vernacular architecture in the form of the decorative plasterwork on the facades of the peasant houses, dating from the beginning of the last century.
